US of Care Announces Minnesota Health Care Policy Resource Guide
USofCare has released its inaugural Minnesota Health Care Policy Resource Guide. This guide provides policymakers with information they need to develop and consider policies to address both state and federal health care challenges. The guide includes information on immediate needs, 2019 health care priorities, and long-term priorities.

In our Health Care Policy Resource Guide, we lay out a health care to-do list for Minnesota, addressing immediate needs, 2019 health care priorities, and long-term priorities. We hope it will serve as a resource for current and potential policymakers, both state and federal, to familiarize themselves with the evolving health care landscape in the state.

Home State Listening Tour Stop
Last week, the United States of Care team continued our listening tour with events in our co-headquarters state of Minnesota, meeting with over 200 stakeholders working to find solutions to the health care challenges in the state. A highlight of our visit was the opportunity to spend time with United States of Care board member Senator Dave Durenberger. We brought together a panel of 30 stakeholders, which included a focus on the success and sustainability of existing efforts. United States of Care is planning to continue engaging with these stakeholders to be a partner in the continuing work to eliminate health inequities in Minnesota.

United States of Care has spent the last six months listening and learning from health care leaders in states across the country. We have visited four states and held conversations with more than 20. Transformation and Innovation Underway in NC
The USofCare team members continued our national listening tour by visiting North Carolina on May 9. We met with Founder’s Council Member Natalie Weaver, representatives from local organizations, and patient and consumer advocates. We also met with Mandy Cohen, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and her team. We were glad to see such a committed and engaged advocacy community, and to meet with state leaders interested in addressing all the complex factors impacting the health and wellness of the state’s residents.

Utahns Want To Help Their Neighbors
First stop—Utah! USofCare listened to Utahns and found that health care is too expensive. We met with health care stakeholders, providers, policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, consumers, and patient advocates. While the issues, policies, and emotions involved are complicated, there is a willingness to work together to make it happen.

Health Affairs Blog: States That Have Aimed To Close The Coverage Gap—What Can We Learn?
The healthcare system could afford each person $10,000—if not for wasted costs and ineffective care. By closing the coverage gap, everyone in the U.S. could have access to health care. USofCare is partnering with Penn LDI to develop research-backed resources and approaches to policymakers. This report identifies common challenges encountered by states in attempts to close the coverage gap, summarizes important lessons learned, and highlights the themes across states.
