United States of Care Issues Statement in Response to the Signing of Minnesota’s Public Option Legislation

Published On May 24, 2023

Saint Paul, MN — In response to today’s signing of SF 2995 by Governor Tim Walz, which authorizes implementation of a public option in Minnesota, United States of Care released the following statement from CEO and co-founder Natalie Davis:

“With Minnesota now on the path towards building a public option, Minnesotans can look forward to lower costs and more dependable coverage. As the cost of health care remains top of mind for many Minnesotans, access to an affordable coverage option would help to alleviate the burden families and communities face every day.

“As an organization co-founded in Minnesota, and dedicated to ensuring everyone has access to quality, affordable health care, we are proud the state has started the process of joining others in successfully expanding access, driving affordability, and centering health equity through a public option.

“By also securing coverage for Minnesotans regardless of immigration status, this legislation would help expand access to care for those who have traditionally been left out of coverage, but who deserve the peace of mind of knowing that they are covered no matter their background.

“We thank Governor Tim Walz, Senate and House leadership, and advocates like TakeAction Minnesota for their work over several years to make this legislation a reality for Minnesotans.”
