United States of Care Endorses Bipartisan SITE Act

Published On June 8, 2023

Washington, D.C. — In response to the introduction of the Site-Based Invoicing and Transparency Enhancement (SITE) Act in the U.S. Senate by Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Mike Braun (R-IN), United States of Care CEO Natalie Davis issued the following statement:

“United States of Care is proud to endorse the bipartisan SITE Act, recognizing this essential legislation as a key step to curb the soaring costs of health care for people across the country.

When we talk to people across the country, we hear time and time again that the cost of getting the care they need is a top concern. Even people who are financially secure worry they will not be able to afford the care they need in the future.

The SITE Act, championed by Senators Hassan and Braun, hits at the heart of this issue by targeting the underlying pressures that drive health care prices – the exact ones that force people to shoulder the costs.

Financial incentives in the current health care system have led hospitals to amass market power through consolidation, resulting in highly concentrated markets that hike up prices for consumers and, indirectly, for everyone through higher insurance premiums. It’s time we address these systematic flaws and the SITE Act does just that.

An overwhelming 89% of voters echo this sentiment, demanding action to reduce hospital prices according to a recent survey. This includes both sides of the political spectrum – 95% of Biden voters and 85% of Trump voters. The same survey reveals that 80% believe current hospital prices are unreasonable.

With states already innovating solutions to increase price transparency and prevent unfair billing practices, the SITE Act seizes the opportunity to bring these effective strategies to a federal level.

United States of Care continues to advocate for a more affordable health care system that works for everyone and applauds the bipartisan action of Senators Hassan and Braun. The SITE Act is a forceful solution towards reigning in spiraling health care prices, and we wholeheartedly endorse it.”
