Colorado Has a Plan for Lowering Costs, Delivering High-Quality Affordable Coverage.
Given the unlikelihood of significant federal action to reduce health care costs in the near future, Colorado is among the states that have taken initiative to guarantee affordable health care for its residents. States and Health Systems Find that Housing Services Can Improve Mental Health and Reduce Costs
While we often think of health care as occurring in a physician’s office or hospital room, the most effective care can take place outside of a medical setting. Patients facing housing instability are disproportionately likely to have mental health and/or substance use disorder. Thus, housing security can be an effective way to improve both physical and mental health for patients experiencing homelessness.

United States of Care Recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month
During Mental Health Awareness Month, USofCare affirms our commitment to promoting policy solutions that ensure people with behavioral health conditions can access affordable care. Mental health affects everyone, yet our health care system continues to treat behavioral health as a specialty service. We strongly encourage states to take steps to increase the affordability of mental health treatment, enforce mental health parity laws, and simplify the claims process so families will not unfairly be denied coverage.
