United States of Care Launches Initiative to Expand Employer-based Coverage of Postpartum Care at Clinton Global Initiative

Published On September 23, 2024

As part of the organization’s 100 Weeks Campaign, employers are called to commit to the “Vision for Postpartum Care” in order to better support women and strengthen the workforce

Washington, DC —  United States of Care (USofCare) is proud to announce its participation at this year’s Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting, where Co-Founder and CEO Natalie Davis will present a bold new initiative entitled, “Advancing Health Outcomes for Women in Postpartum Care.” USofCare is launching this new initiative to expand employer-based coverage of postpartum care, with employers who join the campaign committing to implement a new Vision for Postpartum Care for their employees within the next five years.

Postpartum care remains inconsistent for millions of working women, and neither federal nor state regulations adequately address these needs. As part of USofCare’s 100 Weeks Campaign, a campaign dedicated to improving postpartum care over the next five years, the Vision for Postpartum Care establishes a comprehensive framework for the postpartum care that every woman, regardless of her insurance coverage, should have access to after pregnancy. With over half of births each year covered by private insurance, employers hold significant influence to shape what services their employees receive. By collaborating directly with employers, USofCare and its partners aim to expand postpartum coverage and improve care for the greatest number of women.

“Employers have a unique opportunity to not just support their workforce, but to lead on a critical health issue that affects millions of women and families,” said Natalie Davis, co-founder and CEO of United States of Care. “By prioritizing postpartum care, companies can create a culture where women are valued beyond their pregnancy, and where healthier outcomes benefit everyone. This initiative isn’t just about doing the right thing—it’s about investing in the future of our workforce and ensuring that women have the care they deserve, long after they’ve given birth.”

Maternity care is the second-highest annual health care expenditure for American employers—accounting for $1 for every $5 in health care benefits. Employers that implement policies to support women’s postpartum care, like paid leave, also see greater revenue and profit per employee and lower turnover rates. Healthier families lead to more engaged workforces.

By committing to implement the Vision for Postpartum Care, employers will help set a new benchmark for maternal health in the workplace, improving the lives of women and benefiting their organizations in the long run.
