Oregon’s Medicaid Program Infrastructure Promotes Health Equity and Care Coordination

Oregon has been a pioneer in innovative health care policy over the years, including in the development of its Medicaid program infrastructure. Oregon operates its Medicaid program through Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs), which function as community-governed managed care organizations. 

The below brief details how Oregon’s CCO model delivers coordinated, integrated care with a focus on advancing health equity and addressing health-related social needs. As Oregon continues to pursue innovative health policies, including a Bridge Plan to support continuity of care, there are ample opportunities to harness the values of the existing CCO infrastructure and leverage the strength of these organizations.
