Rod Hochman

President and CEO, Providence Health System

Rod Hochman, M.D., is the president and CEO of Providence, a Catholic not-for-profit health system. Providence has served the Western U.S. for more than 165 years and together includes 120,000 caregivers who serve in 52 hospitals, more than 1,000 clinics and hundreds of programs and services in Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas and Washington. He is passionate about drawing on the diverse resources and talents within the Providence family of organizations to touch lives wherever relief, comfort and care are needed most.

Under Rod’s leadership, Providence is transforming health care for the future through digital innovation, population health, mental health, genomics, whole person care and outreach to those who are poor and vulnerable. He championed the formation of Well Being Trust, established in 2016 with a $100 million endowment from Providence to focus on the mental health and wellness of communities. In 2020, Rod also proudly supported a $50 million, five-year pledge by Providence to address racial disparities in health care.

He is the chair of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees, and has served as past chair of AHA’s Regional Policy Board 9 and of the board of trustees for the Catholic Health Association. Rod has been named among the most influential people in health care by Modern Healthcare several years in a row. He was awarded the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Puget Sound Business Journal. In 2019, the National Center for Healthcare Leadership honored him as the recipient of the Gail L. Warden Leadership Excellence Award.

Rod served as a clinical fellow in internal medicine at Harvard Medical School and Dartmouth Medical School. In addition, he is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology. He received his bachelor’s degree and medical degree from Boston University
