United States of Care Expands Team with Federal and State Affairs Hires

Washington, D.C. — Today, United States of Care, a non-partisan health care non-profit, announced two new additions to the organization. Andrew Schwab will be the new Senior Manager of Policy and Federal Affairs, and Catherine Jacobson has joined as State Affairs and Policy Assistant.

“We are excited to grow our policy team and expand our footprint with federal policymakers on Capitol Hill and in Minnesota,” said Kristin Wikelius, Senior Director of Policy at United States of Care. “Andrew and Catherine bring a wide range of knowledge and experience to our organization, this will help us advance our mission of increasing access to affordable health care for all Americans.”

Andrew Schwab brings over 15 years of experience in health care policy and politics at the state and federal levels. At United States of Care, he will be our primary point of contact with Members of Congress, their staff as well as the executive branch. Most recently, Andrew served as Chief of Advocacy at the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) leading federal efforts on behalf of the highest quality and best performing non-profit health insurers in the nation. Just prior to that, from early 2013 to mid-2016, Andrew worked as a federal government relations professional for AARP where he handled all private payer health insurance issues, including Medicare Advantage, Medicare supplemental, employer coverage, and the Affordable Care Act.

Andrew began his career working for U.S. Senator Jon Corzine (D-NJ) as Deputy Press Secretary. He then went on to serve for seven years as Chief of Staff to NJ Assemblyman Gary Schaer, then Chairman of the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee. Andrew holds degrees in history and policy studies from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs and a Masters of Public Administration from Rutgers University.

Catherine Jacobson most recently served as a Policy Intern for United States of Care, while completing her Masters of Public Health in Public Health Administration and Policy at the University of Minnesota. Catherine has held numerous internships revolving around local, state, and federal policy. These placements included the Office of Senator Amy Klobuchar, several national disability rights organizations, a health plan, and a county level public health department.

Prior to her work at United States of Care, Catherine served as Health and Justice Intern for Turnlane, a strategy and innovation organization. In this role she supported the facilitation of a Race and Equity Task Force and co-led a report development on structural racism within a city government. Catherine is an alumnus of Hamline University where she double majored in Public Health Science and Social Justice with a Health Equity concentration.
