Protecting No-Cost Preventive Care: A State Legislative Framework from USofCare and CHLPI

While last year’s Kennedy v. Braidwood Supreme Court decision protected more than 150 million people’s free access to preventive care services recommended by the U.S Preventive Services Task Force, it also led to significant uncertainty for states looking ahead. Given this, states have an important role to ensure these protections remain in place for people who have come to rely on them.

To that end, United States of Care partnered with the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation to develop a new step-by-step guide for states looking to establish or strengthen their own preventive services protections. The new framework identifies core principles for states looking to protect access to these services, provides a legislative roadmap for state action, and highlights related policies and resources to ensure people have continued access to no-cost preventive care.
