United States of Care Statement on Senate Vote to Extend ePTCs
Washington, DC — Earlier today, the United States Senate voted on S.3385, which would extend the enhanced advance premium tax credits (ePTCs) that allow people to enroll in coverage on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplaces with more affordable premiums. This vote and the Republican alternative failed, meaning that with only days until the end of open enrollment, millions of people across the United States are still unsure if they’ll face even higher premiums for their health care coverage in 2026. In response, United States of Care (USofCare) issued the following statement:
“These subsidies have been a lifeline for people and their families who are struggling to afford basic necessities all around,” said United States of Care CEO and Co-Founder Natalie Davis. “If we reach the end of the year without an extension, people will be forced to weigh their health against the cost of needing care, only compounding their affordability challenges. It is an impossible decision that people are making far too often, and it’s critical that Congress step in to make sure that millions more don’t find themselves in the same trap.”“For nearly seven years, USofCare has engaged in comprehensive research to map the human experience in health care. At the core of what we’ve heard from tens of thousands of people across the country is that they just want to be able to afford their health care — and know that it’ll be there when they need it. Failing to address these expiring tax subsidies would be a mistake for Congress, and I encourage leaders on both sides to keep working on a path forward that will give people some certainty that they can afford their coverage.”
