USofCare Reacts to House Passage of Budget Reconciliation Bill
Washington, DC — Earlier today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass its budget reconciliation bill (H.R. 1). In response to the health provisions in the bill, United States of Care issued the following statement:
“All across the country, in communities in every state, everyday people across party lines tell us through our listening work that they want health care they can afford, rely on, and navigate without issue. People want their representatives to address their urgent coverage and affordability needs – not put more bureaucracy between people and their health.”
“This legislation proposes policies that would erode health care access in the United States for everyday people. It would restrict access to Medicaid and the Health Insurance Marketplace, wrapping them in red tape that would result in additional cost to the system and states, more uncompensated care for providers, and worse health for people.”
“Estimates indicate that nearly 14 million people could lose their health care if this bill becomes law. For the system, it could destabilize and disrupt the Marketplace, casting a ripple effect throughout insurance markets for everyone.”
“United States of Care acknowledges the shared goal of eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in our system, and giving states the resources to do so. But this bill is not the answer. If we want to achieve these shared goals and make our country healthier, we can’t layer more administrative burden on people and states. This bill is an even bigger step down the wrong path. We urge the Senate to reject these proposals and instead focus on targeted solutions that can both make our health care programs work more efficiently and ensure people can easily obtain and keep the coverage they need.”
