United States of Care Submits Letter to Minnesota Attorney General Ellison on Proposed Allina Health -Sutter Health Merger

Published On July 16, 2026

On July 13, United States of Care (USofCare) submitted a letter to Attorney General Ellison of Minnesota about a proposed merger between Sutter Health and Allina Health. Our letter highlights research that hospital consolidation leads to higher prices for consumers and systems, without a corresponding increase in care quality. Similar to other states, a majority of Minnesotans are experiencing hardship due to high healthcare costs and are concerned about mergers impacting their health care. Accordingly, USofCare encourages Attorney General Ellison to question Sutter and Allina Health’s leadership and seek commitments on measures to protect affordability and preserve access to essential and safety net services.

We applaud the Attorney General for the transparency into the current merger and for seeking the public’s input.
