Tanya Bhatia

Health Policy Data Scientist

Tanya is a data scientist with 4+ years of experience using advanced statistical methods to derive insights from multimodal data in the healthcare space. Before joining USofCare, she was a lead data analyst in a neurodevelopment laboratory at New York University Langone Health, where she managed and analyzed diverse high-dimensional datasets, including neuroimaging, wearable technology, biological, behavioral, and questionnaire data, using statistical and machine learning techniques. Working at the intersection of biology, social determinants of health, and mental health outcomes, she collaborated with neuroscientists and biostatisticians to design systems that extract patterns from complex longitudinal data. Her recent work includes building processing pipelines and predictive models to assess individuals’ risk of postpartum mental health disorders using real-world physiological data. She has presented her research on early life and maternal health at international conferences in Asia and Europe and has co-authored over 20 publications, including peer-reviewed articles and conference presentations.

While studying neuroscience and data science at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Tanya conducted computational neuroscience research on retinal implant devices and received a research grant to lead a person-centered mixed-methods study investigating the needs of blind individuals in daily activities as part of her honors thesis project, which is now leading to a peer-reviewed publication. She also received the Poster Presentation Award at the SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference for her work on a data-driven approach to reduce perceptual distortions for retinal implant users.

With a focus on improving health outcomes for underserved populations through understanding social determinants of health, Tanya is passionate about leveraging data science to unveil insights about the human experience of healthcare and build an equitable, people-centered healthcare system. Tanya grew up in California and currently lives in New York City. In her free time, Tanya volunteers as a tennis coach for children with autism and enjoys exploring new cuisines, attending concerts, practicing yoga, hiking, cooking, and painting.
