United States of Care Provides Testimony in Support of Indiana Legislation to Address Rising Health Care Costs in Non-Profit Hospitals

Published On March 31, 2025

On March 19th, United States of Care submitted written testimony in support of legislation to the Indiana Senate Health and Provider Services Committee. This bill builds on recent actions by the Indiana legislature aimed at protecting patients from unexpected and unpredictable hospital prices. It introduces transparency and accountability for nonprofit hospitals by instituting a price cap for hospital services at 300% of Medicare rates.

United States of Care supports the potential in this bill. Still, USofCare encourages the Indiana State Legislature to consider a more ambitious cap—closer to 200% of Medicare rates—to provide more meaningful savings for Indiana consumers. This approach would align Indiana with similar state-level initiatives in Oregon, Colorado, and Montana, which have all experienced significant savings with a lower cap.

USofCare applauds the sponsors for introducing this legislation and strongly encourages the committee to amend and pass the bill. With the right cost containment strategies and structure, this bill could help create a more transparent and fair healthcare system for all Hoosiers.
