USofCare Provides Testimony to Minnesota Senate Judiciary and Civil Rights Committee in Support of Legislation to Protect People From Hospital Facility Fees

Published On April 3, 2025

United States of Care submitted testimony to the Minnesota Senate Judiciary and Civil Rights Committee in support of SF 1503, commonsense legislation that would establish reasonable limits on facility fees charged to patients by hospitals and health systems.

Facility fees, or additional charges tacked onto a patient’s bill along with the cost of their services because they received care at a health center not owned by their doctor, can often come as a surprise to people – and can often exceed the cost of the care provided.

SF 1503 offers Minnesota the opportunity to join the eleven states that have passed laws limiting all or some facility fees. We applaud the committee’s efforts and look forward to supporting additional policy solutions to ensure that Minnesotans have access to the medical care they need without adding additional worries about costs.
