Steve Beshear was sworn in as governor of Kentucky on Dec. 11, 2007. He was re-elected to a second term in 2011.
An attorney by profession, Beshear has a long background in public service, having served as a state representative in the Kentucky General Assembly, attorney general and lieutenant governor.
Beshear shepherded Kentucky through the global economic recession, earning the commonwealth national recognition for job creation and business investment. Recognizing that Kentucky’s long-term success would require building a stronger workforce, he also has worked aggressively to improve the core areas of education and health.
Beshear is a native of Dawson Springs in Hopkins County. He holds a bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Kentucky, where he was president of the student body.
He and his wife, Jane, have been married since 1969. They have two sons.
