USofCare Statement on President-Elect Joe Biden’s Nominee Xavier Becerra for HHS Secretary

Published On December 7, 2020

(Washington, DC) On Monday, December 7, Emily Barson, Executive Director of United States of Care (USofCare) issued the following statement on the announcement of Xavier Becerra, as President-elect Joe Biden nominee for secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS):

“United States of Care congratulates Xavier Becerra, California’s attorney general, on being named President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee for secretary of health and human services.

“Without question, our nation faces monumental challenges, between a once-in-century pandemic raging across America, an economic crisis, and a renewed discussion on health inequality. We must build a stronger health care system to ensure that everyone has access to the care they need. Becerra’s experience at both the federal and state levels, working to advance and protect access to affordable health care, will benefit the country into the future.

“If confirmed, Becerra would become the first Latino HHS Secretary in history at a pivotal moment in the pandemic, which has taken a disproportionately devastating toll on communities of color.

As a nonpartisan, nonprofit, we stand ready to work with Xavier Becerra and the incoming Biden-Harris Administration to build a better, more equitable health care system in the wake of COVID-19.
