United States of Care Applauds Minnesota’s Legislature for Bipartisan Health Bills
Washington, DC – Statement from United States of Care Interim Executive Director Kristin Wikelius regarding the passage of bipartisan health bills by Minnesota’s state legislature:
“We applaud Minnesota policymakers for their bipartisan agreement to preserve and expand access to quality, affordable health care in Minnesota this year. Today, legislators approved a plan to extend the state’s provider tax that funds care for over 1.2 million Minnesotans. Lawmakers also voted to reauthorize the state’s reinsurance program, which will help to lower the cost of premiums in the individual market over the next two years.
This session, policymakers also supported measures to control drug prices, provide access to school-linked mental health services, promote price transparency from providers and drug manufacturers, and fund opioid prevention and treatment programs. Despite the gridlock in Washington, state policymakers are rolling up their sleeves to tackle issues important to their constituents. Importantly, progress this year sets up Minnesota policymakers to continue working across the political aisle to address issues of affordability and access. “
