United States of Care is seeking a development and database professional to join its growing team. United States of Care is a non-partisan non-profit with a mission to ensure everyone has access to quality, affordable health care regardless of health status, social need, or income.  We were established by a diverse Board and Founder’s Council to advance state and federal policies that solve the challenges people face with our health care system. We seek to understand people’s unique needs to drive health care policy innovation and partner with elected officials and stakeholders to pass and implement those ideas. 

Position Description

A full time position, the Development and Database Coordinator will serve a supportive role to the success of fundraising at USofCare.  The Coordinator will report directly to the Senior Director of Development as well as work closely with the development staff, the operations department, other staff members as needed, and constituents to ensure accurate gift recording and acknowledgments. This position will serve as database administrator for the entire organization, currently using Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, and will focus on aspects that support the growth and maintenance of the organization’s fundraising programs. While experience in database management is a plus, training will be made available for this position as necessary.

The Development and Database Coordinator is entrepreneurial, collaborative, has strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and manages to deadlines. They “manage up” on progress of assignments and take direction well. Ability to multi-task and work independently are essential.


Responsibilities and Duties

Database (50%)

  • Manage all donation processing, receipting, acknowledging, and pledge management activity:
    • Receive, record, process and reconcile all gifts;
    • Record gift details into Raiser’s Edge database within 48 hours of receipt;
    • Generate gift batch reports and weekly internal gift reporting;
    • Prepare thank you and pledge letters for review and send; manage internal stewardship processes by notifying appropriate staff;
    • Manage and execute monthly financial reconciliation, data integrity of donation information, and data input, while adhering to departmental policies and procedures;
    • Adhere to IRS and accounting regulations and best practices in gift record retention.
  • Serve as technical expert in Raiser’s Edge including: 
    • Train staff and project manage on contact report entry and basic navigation;
    • Ensure staff are entering data into the database as appropriate; develop mechanisms to measure entries;
    • Maintain Raiser’s Edge Handbook for organization.
  • Maintain Raiser’s Edge using best practices and lead data entry, contact record hygiene, dashboard, and report creation;
  • Coordinate all list management, including updating information in Raiser’s Edge, and producing list reports;
  • Generate routine report and mailing lists as needed.

Development (50%)

  • Support the Development Department:
    • Provide project management support and scheduling for all grant proposals and report deadlines;
    • Develop reports on major gift, foundation and corporation activity;
    • Update Raiser’s Edge with final proposal and report documents;
    • Help update or create PowerPoint and presentation materials;
    • Provide administrative and scheduling support for Development team.
  • Support the Organization’s events:
    • In partnership with communications, coordinate print and digital invitations and manage RSVPs status and reporting;
    • Facilitate in-person and virtual meetings as needed;
    • Enter all event attendees and RSVPs into Raiser’s Edge;
    • May include event planning, invitations, vendor coordination, day of support, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with special stewardship projects including follow up letters after events, holiday card mailings, invitations to special events, and personal calls to donors;
  • Perform research of major donors, foundations, and corporate prospects using appropriate research tools;
  • Assist in maintaining project management systems, managing up around deliverables and deadlines;
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Two-years experience in relational database management experience;
  • Raiser’s Edge experience preferred, but not required;
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience;
  • Practical work experience and/or interest in grantmaking, fundraising, event management or other non-profit work;
  • A strong commitment to ensuring everyone has access to quality, affordable health care;

Compensation and Location

The salary range for this position is $50,000-$58,000 depending on experience and location.

This position is full-time, and United States of Care offers a very generous benefits package. This position is located either in Minneapolis, MN or Washington, DC.
